We’ve brought national attention to the issue by calling out these fees over many years, so are pleased they will now be scrutinised. Four-in-five drivers we’ve surveyed believe they are a 'rip-off’, with just one-in-10 understanding why airports charge what they do.

“Our most recent analysis found 16 of the top 20 UK airports increased their drop-off fees between this summer and last, with average prices rising by a third to £7. But such ‘farewell fees’ are at direct odds with most other major airports overseas, where drivers can drop passengers off close to terminals free of charge. If convenient, free drop-off zones work at so many international airports, why not here in the UK?"

<div id=\"story-bookmark-b8443323-83cc-4eef-b82a-878d0a8c113a\"\n class=\"release-content-story-bookmark release-content-story-bookmark--horizontal\">\n\n <a class=\"release-content-story-bookmark__thumbnail\"\n href=\"https://media.rac.co.uk/farewell-fees-average-cost-of-dropping-off-at-uks-busiest-airports-soar-by-a-third-compared-to-last-summer\"\n rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"\n target=\"_blank\" style=\"background-image: url(https://prezly.imgix.net/https%3A%2F%2Fcdn.uc.assets.prezly.com%2F6988ba55-a5ee-40bc-9ea3-f4924f059f7e%2F-%2Fpreview%2F600x600%2F?ar=1%3A1&fit=crop&s=8eedd39e82de871461af005cccae2926)\"\n >\n \n
\n\n <a class=\"release-content-story-bookmark__title\"\n href=\"https://media.rac.co.uk/farewell-fees-average-cost-of-dropping-off-at-uks-busiest-airports-soar-by-a-third-compared-to-last-summer\"\n rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"\n target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"story-bookmark\"\n data-track=\"Story StoryBookmark Click\"\n data-placement=\"content\"\n data-id=\"b8443323-83cc-4eef-b82a-878d0a8c113a\"\n >\n Farewell fees: Average cost of dropping off at UK\u2019s busiest airports soar by a third compared to last summer \n \n
\n Last free drop-off disappears as London City introduces charges \u2013 in contrast to all the 10 busiest airports in the EU which don\u2019t charge drivers at all
\n \n <a href=\"https://media.rac.co.uk/\"\n target=\"_blank\"\n rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"\n class=\"release-content-story-bookmark__provider\"\n >\n \n media.rac.co.uk \n
\n
\n

\n

\n
\n Press team\n For journalist enquiries only\n

\n <use xlink:href=\"#icon-paper-plane\"></use>\n press.office@rac.co.uk
\n
\n <use xlink:href=\"#icon-browser\"></use>\n media.rac.co.uk

\n
\n

",
