Plug-in car grant for electric cars to end - RAC reaction

Commenting on the Government's decision to scrap the plug-in car grant, which provided drivers with a financial incentive to choose a new electric car, RAC head of policy Nicholas Lyes said:

“The UK’s adoption of electric cars is so far impressive but in order to make them accessible to everyone, we need prices to fall - having more on the road is one important way of making this happen, so we're disappointed the Government has chosen to end the grant at this point. If costs remain too high, the ambition of getting most people into electric cars will be stifled."

The RAC is supporting drivers in the switch to electric cars in a number of ways, including via its electric vehicle leasing scheme.

First car models approved for £1,500 discount to turbocharge the move to electric - RAC comment
Following the Government’s announcement that the first car models have been approved for the Electric Car Grant, RAC head of policy Simon Williams said: “It’s great to see the first qualifying models announced for the Government’s new Electric Car Grant. Not only does this mean more drivers will benefit from the lower cost of running an electric vehicle, but it’s hopefully the sign of more to come from other manufacturers in the weeks ahead. With nearly 1.6m battery electric vehicles on the road already, it’s a real boost for the switch to electric.”
