RAC comments on new ULEV registration statistics

New DVLA vehicle licensing statistics show 29,963 new ultra low emission vehicles (ULEVs) were registered for the first time in the United Kingdom in 2015. This made up 0.9% of all new registrations, compared with 0.5% in 2014.

Commenting on the figures, from the DVLA that point to a rise in vehicle registrations, including ultra low emission vehicles (ULEVs), RAC spokesman Simon Williams said: “It is good to see uptake of ultra low emission vehicles (ULEVs) is increasing with a near-doubling of registrations in 12 months. ULEVs might still make up a very small proportion of overall new registrations – just under 1% – but this is 0.4% up year-on-year and is a clear indication of just how important this growing segment of the market is.

“While the Government’s plug-in grant scheme has been extended to 2018, the fact is one of the incentives for ‘going ultra low’ will actually be reduced from next year. Changes to Vehicle Excise Duty bands from 2017 will mean ULEVs will pay the same in duty after the first year of registration as the vast majority of other vehicles which have far greater CO2 emissions. We hope this change does not undermine the progress made in encouraging people to switch to cleaner, more efficient vehicles.”

Government launches 'Fuel Finder' scheme today - RAC comment
Welcoming the launch of the Government's new Fuel Finder scheme, RAC head of policy Simon Williams said: “We hope this is the start of the journey to cheaper fuel prices around the UK. The Government has set up this scheme with the intention of increasing competition among retailers to give drivers better value at the pumps. As a growing number of the country’s 8,300 forecourts submit their prices on a daily basis, drivers will be able to easily find the cheapest forecourts near them using their favoured app or sat-nav."
