RAC comments on plans for real-time motorway fuel price signage

RAC fuel spokesman Simon Williams said: “While long overdue this trial is very welcome as motorway drivers are regularly paying up to 10 pence a litre more than the national average or, compared to the cheapest retailers, up to 15p more.

“It only seems fair that motorists should be given advanced notice of how much fuel is at upcoming motorway services so they can make an informed decision about where to fill up.

“The bigger question here is why is motorway petrol and diesel so expensive in the first place when there really is no good reason for it to cost so much more, other than the fact operators are taking advantage of drivers having to make ‘distressed purchases’.

“We hope that by having to display their prices for all to see that motorway service operators will be shamed in to charging a fairer price for their fuel.”
