RAC celebrates the Italian Job at Earls Court

In the spirit of Revival the RAC is giving away a 1965 Mk1 Mini

The RAC is launching its stand in the Earls Court Motor Show at Goodwood Revival (13 – 15 September) with a recreation of a classic scene from the 1960’s film The Italian Job and a competition to win a classic Mk1 Mini.

Visitors to Goodwood Revival are transported back in time to motoring’s heyday of the 1940s, 50s and 60s. The iconic event is famous for its cars, fashion and aviation and visitors are invited to leave the modern world behind, dress up in period dress and step back in time to the bygone era.

Motoring fans will have the opportunity to rub shoulders with motorsport royalty who will be among the 140,000 visitors at this prestigious event including legendary British racing drivers Sir Stirling Moss, Richard Attwood, John Surtees and Derek Bell.

One of the main attractions is the recreation of the classic Earl’s Court Motor Show which is presented by the RAC. Within this famous exhibition, the RAC will be embracing the 1960s and featuring an iconic scene from the classic film, The Italian Job. Visitors can join in the theatre by having their photo taken with a Michael Caine lookalike and enter a free prize draw to win a 1965 tartan red Morris Mk1 Mini.

The mini will be on ‘set’ as part of the film scene featuring the trio of red, white and blue minis which were used in the hair-raising getaway from the multi-million pound gold heist from armoured vans on the streets of Turin.

The RAC stand at Earl’s Court will also feature a lounge area for visitors to relax in, a children’s colouring competition where the prize is a classic pedal car from the RAC online Shop. The RAC will also be promoting its Classic Car Insurance, their new state-of-the-art telematics product ‘Advance’ and, of course, RAC breakdown cover.

RAC Patrol Support

RAC Patrols will also be on hand offering complimentary assistance in the car parks for everyone.

RAC Patrol Phil Kerby will be one of a dozen patrols dedicated to supporting the classic race cars on the track and the thousands of visitors in the car parks.

Phil said, “We are looking forward to welcoming thousands of visitors on the RAC stand at the Earl’s Court Motor Show but we will also have our experienced technician’s on hand in all of the main car parks offering complimentary breakdown assistance.“

“We wish everyone a safe travel to and from Goodwood but would recommend some simple steps to ensure your journey is as smooth as possible.”

The RAC has put together the following ‘top-tips’ for visitors planning to drive to Goodwood:

• Plan your route in advance – try the RAC Route Planner shows live traffic and weather along your route
• Remember the FORCE – some quick simple checks of your vehicle before travelling can help avoid a breakdown and all the hassle it entails. Use the RAC’s simple acronym as a reminder to check your car’s: Fuel, Oil, Rubber(tyres and pressures), Coolant and Electrics (lights)
• We hope you are going to get into the spirit of Revival by donning your 1950’s or 60’s outfit but make sure you have some warm and wet weather clothing too – check the weather forecast and make sure you have the best shoes for lots of walking
• Pack plenty of refreshments for your journey to and home again including drinks and snacks if you are taking your children
• Make sure you set off early and be prepared for delays and queues – it can be very busy!
• Don't leave your valuables on show or in the car
• Ensure you switch everything off and make sure you haven't left your cool box plugged in! Flat batteries are one of the biggest causes of breakdown for visitors.
• Take a note of where you park your car – there are car park signs all around
