RAC Passport dealer check launch for commercial vehicles

Commercial vehicles up to 3.5 tonne and motorbikes can now be checked with the new RAC Car Passport for Dealers.

The provenance check was introduced for cars in March and has since been adopted by more than 300 dealers.

It is designed to provide a lower-cost alternative to competing products while offering high quality data and the reassurance of the RAC name.

Robert Diamond, managing director of Motoring Services at the RAC, said: “We see van and bike dealers as an important part of our future customer base, so we are very pleased to be able to offer RAC Passport to them.

“The advantages that the product brings to car dealers – providing an industry standard provenance check at a low cost and backed by the credibility of the RAC name – apply just as strongly to van and bike retailers.”

Robert added that initial reaction to the launch had been very strong. Most interest had come initially from independent dealers who were in a position to change supplier quickly.

He said: “However, we are also in the process of talking to dealer groups, manufacturers and others who have contractual ties to other providers. They all agree with our assessment that this is a sector that needed more competition – and that we are now providing it.

RAC Passport for dealers offers a simple and transparent pricing structure with a £2.99 standard price, £2.49 for 5,000 checks or more, £1.99 for 10,000 plus and from 99p above 50,000. All of these are believed to undercut the competition by 50% or more. Unlike some competitor products, there is no monthly subscription fee.

Key features include customer-facing, downloadable RAC Car Passport documentation designed to maximise the credibility of the check, a £10,000 guarantee that can be increased to up to £50,000 to protect higher value vehicles, and a mileage adjusted valuation that can be upgraded to a Glass’s valuation for an additional cost.
