Winners of national road safety animation competition announced

The winners of a national competition run by motoring organisation the RAC, the Government’s THINK! road safety campaign and Aardman Animations to find the best child road safety animation, have been announced.

The full list of winners and runners-up is as follows:

Winners from each category beat off strong competition and will be rewarded with £1,000 for their organisation, plus a personal visit from the RAC’s road safety mascot, Horace.

Participants from schools and community groups across the UK were asked to produce a short animation that conveyed one or more road safety messages – simple tips and techniques that young people can do to make sure they, together with their friends and family, stay safe on the roads.

Road Safety Minister, Robert Goodwill, said: “The safety of children on our roads is a key priority for the THINK! campaign. I am delighted we have had the opportunity to work with RAC and Aardman Animations to encourage young people to think creatively about how they can communicate key road safety messages to their peers.”

RAC head of external affairs Pete Williams said: “Our campaign, fronted by road safety mascot Horace, is all about giving young people the knowledge and confidence to use the roads safely. The best people to convey road safety messages to young people are undoubtedly young people themselves, and this is exactly what we encouraged through this competition.

“It’s fantastic that young people across the country embraced the challenge we set with this competition and have produced animations that capture what they feel are the important road safety issues, in a way that will resonate with their peers.”
