"body": "<p><strong>Following the publication the Government&#039;s Private Parking Code of Practice Act RAC head of policy Simon Williams said:</strong></p><p style=\"text-align: left\">&quot;This a step in the right direction to protect drivers from the poor practices of some private parking companies but not the leap we&#039;ve been campaigning for for so long. </p><p style=\"text-align: left\">&quot;We&#039;ve long called for the banning of debt recovery fees being added on top of parking charge notices (PCNs) and a single independent appeals body to replace the two industry-run ones, but neither have been included which is disappointing. </p><p style=\"text-align: left\">&quot;That said, the fact we finally have a code seven years on from the Private Parking Code of Practice Act becoming law is positive. Car park management companies will now have to conform to a new set rules or risk losing access to the DVLA&#039;s database which they depend on to issue PCNs to drivers. This will hopefully prevent many drivers wrongly being issued tickets in the first place. There&#039;s also a strong indication the code will be toughened as soon as next year to take in recent recommendations from the Competition and Markets Authority. </p><p style=\"text-align: left\">&quot;While this isn&#039;t quite the Christmas present we wanted for drivers, it should hopefully save many the stress of having to challenge unfair tickets.&quot;</p><p>&nbsp;</p><div class=\"release-content-contact\" id=\"contact-c93080a1-8166-4794-a0ee-ec70b2fa8bbd\">\n <div class=\"release-content-contact__avatar\"><img src=\"https://cdn.uc.assets.prezly.com/0ccbe28b-9a41-4aac-9ccb-0813e2369083/-/scale_crop/128x128/center/-/format/auto/\" alt=\"Press team\" class=\"release-content-contact__avatar-image\" /></div>\n <div class=\"release-content-contact__details\">\n <strong class=\"release-content-contact__name\">Press team</strong>\n <em class=\"release-content-contact__description\">For journalist enquiries only</em>\n <ul class=\"release-content-contact__details-list\"><li class=\"release-content-contact__details-list-item\"><a href=\"mailto:press.office@rac.co.uk\" class=\"release-content-contact__details-list-item-link\" title=\"press.office@rac.co.uk\"><svg class=\"icon icon-paper-plane release-content-contact__details-list-item-icon\">\n <use xlink:href=\"#icon-paper-plane\"></use>\n </svg>press.office@rac.co.uk</a></li>\n<li class=\"release-content-contact__details-list-item\"><a href=\"https://media.rac.co.uk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" class=\"release-content-contact__details-list-item-link\" title=\"media.rac.co.uk\"><svg class=\"icon icon-browser release-content-contact__details-list-item-icon\">\n <use xlink:href=\"#icon-browser\"></use>\n </svg>media.rac.co.uk</a></li></ul>\n </div>\n</div><p>&nbsp;</p>",
