RAC chosen by BGL to underwrite its legal expenses insurance book

Following a competitive tender process, the RAC’s Legal Services business has been selected by BGL Group to underwrite its motor and home legal expenses insurance (LEI) business.

BGL is a leading digital distributor of insurance and household financial services to 10m customers through its own brands and those of its 12 household name partners. Within its Insurance, Distribution & Outsourcing business it offers LEI products to almost 3m motor and household customers.

RAC Legal Services was chosen as BGL’s preferred underwriter partner given its extensive expertise in the field, providing legal services to more than 5m customers, and its ability to underwrite its own LEI policies.

The RAC also provides similar services to other similar large corporate partners thanks to its in-house capabilities including motor, commercial and household legal advice helplines, First Notification of Loss services, claims handling and its specialist solicitor panel.

RAC Legal Services general manager Paul Evans said: “We are delighted to have been selected as BGL’s underwriting partner as this is a reflection of our achievements in a very competitive field.

“We believe our expertise and skill-set across all elements of the legal services’ arena played a part, particularly as the sector is on the brink of major changes in the run-up to the whiplash reforms and increase in small claims court limits coming into force next year.

“Our in-house abilities and expertise allow us to offer compelling and bespoke solutions, while ensuring that we support our corporate partners and their customers both now and post the reforms.”

Ursula Gibbs, Insurance and Aggregation Director in BGL’s Insurance, Distribution and Outsourcing division, said: “It was clear throughout the tender process that the RAC was well positioned to manage an LEI book as big as ours, spanning both motor and home policies for many high-profile brands.

“We are confident the RAC is the right partner to work with us on the next stage of our LEI journey.”

EU’s new Entry-Exit System comes into force - RAC reaction
As the EU's new Entry-Exit System begins a phased rollout at European border points, RAC head of policy Simon Williams has the following advice for drivers: “The new EU Entry-Exit System (EES) is rolling out from 12th October, meaning drivers will need to provide fingerprints and have their photos taken when they enter or exit Schengen border crossing points. With a phased roll-out taking place until April 2026, we’re advising motorists to check the official requirements at the UK departure point they’re using before they set off, as these will differ from place to place.
