RAC looks to recruit up to 60 patrols nationwide

The RAC is looking to recruit up to 60 elite vehicle technicians to join its existing 1,600 strong orange UK patrol force supporting eight million roadside assistance members.

As the UK’s most experienced motoring organisation the RAC has been serving its members since 1897 and its reputation is based on the quality of its patrols and their dedication to customer service. Today’s RAC patrols are equipped with state-of-the-art vehicle diagnostics capability, the most advanced roadside battery tester available in the UK, a multi-fit wheel and a modern patrol van kitted out with a comprehensive toolkit help ensure they maintain the RAC’s repair rate of four out of five cars at the roadside.

As membership grows and regional demand continues to increase the RAC has a number of urgent vacancies around the UK and expects additional technicians will be required over the coming months. Current vacancies include patrol posts in Oldham, Bury, Stockport, Wrexham, Evesham, Luton, Basingstoke, Wembley, Hampstead, Dagenham and Chigwell.

To qualify, mechanics should have a minimum of a level 2 light vehicle qualification from IMI, NVQ or City and Guilds and at least three years' workshop experience. They will need a clean driving licence and be highly flexible as the roles require shift work, evenings and weekends with the opportunity for overtime. But most important is a passion for providing great service, putting customers first and going above and beyond for the RAC’s members.

RAC operations director James Knight said: “For today’s roadside technicians it’s all about utilising your technical know-how and IT skills to diagnose and repair our members’ vehicles and mixing that with an extremely strong customer service ethic.

“We have up to 60 opportunities for proven mechanics but we also demand the very highest standards of customer service and excellent people skills.

“Our patrols are passionate about helping our members get back on the road as swiftly as possible with a permanent repair. They are proud to be a part of 'team orange' and benefit from our exceptional technical knowledge and our focus on innovation which means we can keep fixing even today's most modern vehicles at the roadside.

"We are also keen to hear from prospective candidates who are considering their next career move. They can apply to the RAC technician talent pool by expressing their interest in future opportunities. We will carry out an initial assessment to confirm eligibility for future roles, ensuring we can fast-track recruitment to meet demand when new vacancies become available.”

For successful candidates the RAC offers a competitive salary, full training and a comprehensive benefits package – and of course a patrol van equipped with over 500 parts and tools. They will also enjoy being part of the RAC team which is built on service excellence and a passion for motoring.
