RAC strengthens travel insurance offering with trio of new policies

RAC members benefit from free Driving Holiday Pack with every policy bought

The RAC has strengthened its suite of travel insurance policies, with three grades of cover designed to give consumers greater flexibility when it comes to choosing insurance for their trips.

The new policies, now on sale via rac.co.uk, offer higher age limits – providing cover for individuals up to the age of 85 for single and annual trips – and a much greater number of optional add-ons, allowing customers to easily tailor their policy for their needs.

Add-ons now available with RAC Travel Insurance include cover for those who travel abroad for a wedding or are on a cruise, and for the more tech-conscious there is gadget cover that provides protection for up to £3,000 of technology such as smartphones, tablets and cameras. These all sit alongside the more familiar options such as winter sports and golf cover, as well as an option to waive all excesses.

RAC Travel Insurance offers three simple levels of cover to make it easy for consumers to choose what one that is right for their trip:

  • Orange – a highly-competitive entry-level travel insurance policy, offering cover for up to £10m of medical expenses, plus cover for cancellation and trip curtailment, and replacement of travel documents and passports.
  • Silver – for consumers looking for a greater level of cover and lower excesses, this offers £15m of medical cover and has hijacking and ‘end supplier failure’ included as standard.
  • Black – the most comprehensive travel insurance policy on offer from the RAC is designed to give consumers the most peace of mind when travelling. It offers £20m of medical expenses cover, up to £7,500 in the event of cancellation, plus standard excess of just £50

RAC members who choose RAC Travel Insurance also benefit from a free Driving Holiday Pack. Designed for motorists travelling abroad with their own vehicles, it provides emergency car hire, plus cover for camping equipment, towing trailers and overseas emergency vets’ costs for those who take their pets away.

RAC insurance director Mark Godfrey said: “In refreshing our travel insurance offering we saw an opportunity to make things simpler for our customers as we know there are a huge number of different policies available on the market, offering wildly varying levels of cover. That’s why we now offer three straightforward standard cover levels – orange, silver and black – to give anyone travelling complete peace of mind.

“Our standard policies, all underwritten by AXA, are supplemented by a wide range of optional add-ons, which allow people to quickly and affordably customise their policies. Our members are also well catered for with a complimentary Driving Holiday Pack offered to anyone already holding RAC cover.”

The RAC’s new travel insurance policies were developed in partnership with Hood Group and are underwritten by AXA. All are available on a single trip or annual multi-trip basis.
