RAC winter weather update

As the freezing conditions continue and the south east of England sees it first snow of the winter, RAC Breakdown spokesperson Rod Dennis said:

“As of 5pm, around 9,000 drivers have called us for help having broken down and we’re doing everything we can to get to people as quickly as possible. By the end of the day we expect to have handled in the region of eight breakdowns every minute, 50% more than we’d expect on a typical Monday in December.

“We’re expecting hazardous road conditions to continue into Tuesday following a major refreeze overnight. Those who have to use more rural roads that haven’t been gritted will need to exercise great care, delay or even abandon their plans. Before setting out, allow some more time to de-ice and de-mist your vehicle thoroughly. We urge drivers making essential journeys to leave extra space behind the vehicle in front, reduce their speeds to give plenty of time to stop.

“Everyone should make sure they are fully prepared just in case they find themselves broken down at the side of the road: warm waterproof jackets, sturdy footwear, a flask of hot drink and power bank to keep their phones charged are very important.”

Government launches 'Fuel Finder' scheme today - RAC comment
Welcoming the launch of the Government's new Fuel Finder scheme, RAC head of policy Simon Williams said: “We hope this is the start of the journey to cheaper fuel prices around the UK. The Government has set up this scheme with the intention of increasing competition among retailers to give drivers better value at the pumps. As a growing number of the country’s 8,300 forecourts submit their prices on a daily basis, drivers will be able to easily find the cheapest forecourts near them using their favoured app or sat-nav."
