esure appoints the RAC to provide insurance customers with breakdown cover

Jason Conway, Operations Delivery Leader and Richard Fuller, RAC’s Head of Commercial Sales seal the new partnership with a handshake outside esure’s Glasgow office.

esure has appointed the RAC as its new partner for providing optional breakdown cover to all policyholders.

Under the new partnership, esure and Sheilas’ Wheels customers will have three levels of extra cover to choose from and also be able to add other benefits such as key care (Key Replace) and misfuel (Wrong Fuel Recovery), to their motor policy.

These optional breakdown products will be available to esure and Sheilas’ Wheels policyholders at quote, renewal and mid-term adjustment stages.

Customers who opt for the breakdown cover will benefit from the RAC’s fleet of over 1,600 high-tech patrol and repair vehicles, which are on standby across the UK, ready to help motorists get back on the road.

Jon Wilshire, esure Chief Underwriting Officer, said: “We’re delighted to offer our customers breakdown cover with the RAC.

“As a leading UK provider of motor and home insurance, we work hard to ensure we are partnered with the best service providers so that we can meet all of our customers’ needs.

“After a re-tender of breakdown services, we determined that the RAC, with its 120 years’ experience and well-known brand, would provide our customers with the best service.”

RAC’s Head of Commercial Sales, Richard Fuller, said: “We’re very excited to announce this new partnership with esure. They have a proven track record of providing customer-focused insurance products which goes hand in hand with the quality we pride ourselves on here at the RAC.

“The launch has been a complete success and I’m sure esure customers will already be enjoying the reassurance of having the UK’s most experienced breakdown provider to give them peace of mind whilst out on the roads.”

The new RAC breakdown products are now available to esure and Sheilas’ Wheels customers and can be purchased over the phone or online.

Government commits £24bn to road maintenance in 2025 Spending Review - RAC comment
In response to the Government's Spending Review, which commits £24bn of capital funding to road maintenance between 2026 - 2030, RAC head of policy Simon Williams said: “Giving councils the certainty of longer-term funding to fix their roads is something we’ve called for many years, so this is excellent news. Local authorities now have a golden opportunity to end the cycle of merely filling potholes and instead begin to be much more proactive in their maintenance. This must include both more surface dressing to keep decent roads in good condition and resurfacing those that are at the end of their lives. It’s incumbent on councils to grasp this new opportunity and show all road users how it’s making a genuine difference in the quality of the roads they use every day."
