Fewer motorists are being prosecuted for using their mobile phone while driving than ever before, despite official figures showing a persistent number of drivers still using a phone at the wheel

Thirteen years after the introduction of the a law forbidding use of a handheld phone at the wheel, new RAC research shows the behaviour is far from being stamped out.

RAC Business spokesperson Simon Peevers says: “The fact is there are too many motorists in general that still use hand-held mobile phones while driving and there is a real need to change that behaviour. Whether people are driving for business, going to the shops or doing the school run, the distraction caused by hand-held phone use can lead to disastrous consequences.
