McCarthy Cars is named as first RAC BuySure Dealer

Award-winning business spearheads new used car initiative

Award-winning McCarthy Cars has been named as the very first RAC BuySure dealer, spearheading the motor organisation’s new and innovative used car initiative.

The family-owned business, which was established in 1973, has premises in Croydon and Clapham, was named the UK’s Best Loved Car Dealership in 2012 and 2013 by ww.thebestof.co.uk and has been a finalist in the AM, Motor Trader and Car Dealer Awards.

General manager James McCarthy said: “We are pleased and proud to be the first dealer to take part in RAC BuySure. Today, people are looking for as much reassurance as possible when making a used car purchase and this scheme meets that need.

“As a business, we have built our reputation on offering cars that have been correctly sourced and then prepared to a very high standard. Being able to add the RAC BuySure brand and offering adds an extra degree of confidence for our used car customers.”

The RAC BuySure programme has been created to provide used car customers with a nationwide approved used car scheme that sets very high standards and is open to all kinds of dealers including independents, car supermarkets and franchises.

RAC BuySure dealers commit to an 80-point RAC Approved Preparation Standard on every vehicle, a minimum of three months’ RAC Warranty cover, three months of complimentary RAC Roadside breakdown cover and enrolment to RAC Accident Management Service, supporting the motorist in the event of an accident.

RAC Head of Dealer Propositions Mario Dolcezza said: “McCarthy Cars is exactly the kind of used car dealer that we want as part of RAC BuySure. The business has established an enviable reputation and won many awards for its customer service standards.

“More dealers of all kinds are coming on board with RAC BuySure very quickly and we expect to be able to name some of the larger signings very soon.”

The RAC BuySure initiative has been created by the RAC working with its long-time partner in the warranty sector, The Warranty Group.

Government commits £24bn to road maintenance in 2025 Spending Review - RAC comment
In response to the Government's Spending Review, which commits £24bn of capital funding to road maintenance between 2026 - 2030, RAC head of policy Simon Williams said: “Giving councils the certainty of longer-term funding to fix their roads is something we’ve called for many years, so this is excellent news. Local authorities now have a golden opportunity to end the cycle of merely filling potholes and instead begin to be much more proactive in their maintenance. This must include both more surface dressing to keep decent roads in good condition and resurfacing those that are at the end of their lives. It’s incumbent on councils to grasp this new opportunity and show all road users how it’s making a genuine difference in the quality of the roads they use every day."
