RAC appoints Nick Walker to spearhead telematics business

Nick WalkerRAC has made a strong commitment to its telematics business with the appointment of managing director Nick Walker, who will be joining the organisation to spearhead growth in the technology in 2015.

Nick joins the RAC Telematics team, based at RAC’s Bradley Stoke site, from Masternaut where he was managing director of their German-based business. He was responsible for growing their customer base, and launching a number of profitable new products and strategies.

In a career that includes 28 years working in mainland Europe and the USA, Nick brings with him a wealth of experience in growing and developing fast-paced, complex, technology businesses including telematics, telecoms and dot.com.

Nick’s new role as telematics managing director (UK Market) bolsters RAC’s talented team, as he takes the lead on driving future growth for the business through innovative product development, sales, and the delivery of customer-focussed solutions.

Speaking about his new role, Nick said: “There is a fantastic opportunity to drive the telematics proposition at the RAC, because there are so many synergies where telematics makes complete sense.

“It’s important not to see telematics just as a stand-alone product, but as a technology that sits behind a whole range of services we offer, and that makes it a much more powerful offering. I genuinely think we have the opportunity here at the RAC to be game changing in the area of telematics.

“The RAC is all about serving the motorist and telematics is all about the vehicle, so you can merge those two things together to produce something which is really valuable.”

RAC Chief Executive Officer Chris Woodhouse, said: “As RAC moves into the next stage in our journey, continuing to drive forward and build upon the great work already in place, I am delighted to announce that Nick Walker has joined RAC to spearhead our UK based telematics business.

“These changes are designed to provide absolute focus on leading edge product development, operational delivery and most importantly the best possible customer service.

“Nick’s appointment is a huge step towards establishing RAC in a leading position in the telematics market in 2015.”

About the RAC

First formed in 1897, the RAC has been looking after the needs of its members and championing the interests of drivers for more than 120 years.

Today it has more than eight million members and is one of the UK’s most progressive motoring organisations, providing services for both private and business motorists. Whether it's roadside assistance, insurance, buying a used car, vehicle inspections and checks, legal services or up-to-the-minute traffic and travel information – the RAC offers a solution for all motoring needs. The RAC is committed to making motoring easier, safer, more affordable and more enjoyable for drivers and road users.

The RAC is the motorist’s champion and campaigns to support the interests of its members and UK drivers at a national level. This includes voicing concerns about the increasing cost of motoring, particularly the price of fuel and the high level of tax levied on it, advancing levels of road safety, and supporting the needs of all drivers, from young to old.

The RAC’s annual Report on Motoring – first published in 1989 – is one of a kind and provides a clear insight into the concerns and issues facing today’s motorists.

For the very latest news on UK fuel prices, check RAC Fuel Watch. It provides a comprehensive guide to the latest UK unleaded petrol and diesel prices – both at the wholesale level and at the pump - and tracks these prices daily to help drivers check if the price they pay to fill up is a fair one.
