RAC Insurance partners with insurtech Ticker for connected motor products

RAC Insurance has announced an exclusive partnership with telematics insurance specialist Ticker to licence and distribute a suite of connected motor insurance products aimed at consumers.

From this week, a brand-new telematics insurance policy has launched for new and young drivers, which will be quickly followed by further products aimed specifically at older drivers and those who drive low mileages. All products will be available via the RAC website and listed across the leading price comparison websites.

The new driver telematics insurance product, powered by Ticker, is aimed at people who have passed their tests within the last eight years, or last two years if aged between 17 and 21. By using a simple self-fit telematics box, they can be rewarded for good driving with reductions to their future premiums and are safe in the knowledge they’ll retain their no-claims bonus if hit by an uninsured driver.

Ticker, the RAC’s new insurance telematics partner, launched in 2019 and has quickly become one of the UK’s foremost providers of connected motor insurance, with tailored products meeting the specific needs of today’s customers. These include propositions for new drivers, older drivers, and low-mileage drivers – all created to provide more affordable premiums and encourage better, safer driving.

RAC Insurance CEO David Buxton said: “This is the beginning of an exciting journey for us as we relaunch some tried-and-tested telematics insurance products alongside some brand-new ones, aimed at drivers who we feel aren’t currently well-served by the market.

“Having the right partner to help us do this was vital and we’re delighted to be working with Ticker – a well-regarded, forward-thinking company and a genuine innovator in the insurance technology space.

“Whether it’s motorists starting their driving careers and looking for a competitive insurance policy, or lower-mileage drivers looking for a better deal, we have the products that meet their needs. And, by expanding our telematics-based insurance portfolio, we’re encouraging a new generation of safer drivers – something that complements the wider work the RAC does to promote improved safety on the roads.”

Ticker founder and CEO Richard King said: “The motor insurance landscape is shifting. Having new levels of data, including driving behaviour and the use of AI, is critical to remaining competitive. This partnership is the missing piece of the jigsaw for us: we’re now working with a major motoring brand. It’s going to be a significant step-change for Ticker to be in partnership with the RAC, one of the most recognised and respected brands in the UK.”

Further details on the new telematics-based insurance products are available online.

What oil price rises mean for drivers at the pumps - RAC comment
Following news about soaring oil prices, RAC head of policy Simon Williams said: “The average price of a litre of petrol has increased by 1.5p to 133.5p in the last week while diesel has gone up by 2p to 140p. Although the cost of a barrel of oil jumped by $5 to $74 straight after Israel’s 13 June attack on Iran, so far it hasn’t climbed much higher. It's now at trading around $77 - $12 a barrel more expensive than it has been for the last three months - which is not yet enough to cause a major hike at the pumps.
