RAC warns pump prices set to rise once again

Following new data showing pump prices are rising as a result of the ongoing US/Iran conflict, RAC senior policy officer Rod Dennis said:

“The cost of a barrel of oil has traded above $94 all week – the first time since before the summer – meaning there is now upward pressure on wholesale fuel prices. This almost certainly means drivers will start paying noticeably more at the pumps in the coming weeks. Indeed, both petrol and diesel are already up by around a penny a litre since last weekend.

"While the average price of a litre of unleaded currently stands at 163.36p – the highest since the start of the Iran conflict – and diesel at 184.99p, we are thankfully still some way off the highest prices we saw following the onset of Russia’s war on Ukraine. Nonetheless, with household budgets continuing to feel the squeeze the outlook for those that depend on the car isn’t looking good at all.

“Drivers can ensure they pay not a penny more for fuel than they need to by using free apps like myRAC to find the cheapest place to fill up wherever they are.”

Fuel prices rise by a penny in 24 hours
RAC head of policy Simon Williams said: “Average pump prices have jumped by yet another penny in just a day. Petrol has now broken through the £1.70-a-litre barrier and stands at 170.54p – its highest since 23 August 2022 – and diesel has risen to 192.86p – its highest since 29 July 2022. Unfortunately for hard-pressed drivers, prices look set to keep on rising due to the cost of a barrel of oil consistently trading over the $100 mark.
