RAC wins major consumer award for its car insurance products

RAC Insurance has won the coveted award of Car Insurance Provider of the Year at the 2019 Moneyfacts Consumer Awards.

Beating nine other companies in the UK car insurance space, this is the first time RAC Insurance has won the award and follows the recent news that the business has swept past the 500,000 ‘policies in force’ mark, making RAC Insurance a top-five car insurance broker.

The Moneyfacts Consumer Awards recognise companies that are excelling in the consumer finance arena, with the judges giving equal weighting to the technical quality of the products, together with feedback received directly from customers.

RAC Insurance director Mark Godfrey said: “We are thrilled to have been recognised as being the best provider of car insurance products in the UK market today. The award cements our position as a top-five car insurance broker, with us having passed the half-a-million policies in force mark just a few months ago. It is extremely positive to see our products are not only competitive in their own right, but that they are also well received by members of the public who trust the RAC to be their insurer of choice.

“We believe we are in a strong position to go on providing customers with a great range of insurance products that suit their needs. Uniquely, we can now use our knowledge of more than 2m-plus vehicle breakdowns every year to provide a more accurate risk picture for certain groups of drivers, and customers who buy a black box telematics insurance policy can also benefit from our connected breakdown service, allowing us to diagnose faults with their vehicles remotely.”

Head of digital at Moneyfacts Michelle Monck said: “RAC Insurance has been named the 2019 Moneyfacts Consumer Awards Car Insurance Provider of the Year for the first time. The award is based on the provision of technically superior products and excellent consumer feedback from the Moneyfacts Consumer independent annual survey. In a competitive marketplace, RAC Insurance showed incredibly strong technical scores, winning it the title.”

Details of the RAC’s insurance products and services can be found on the RAC Insurance website.

Breakdowns 20% up during heatwave
RAC breakdown spokesperson Simon Williams said: "Tuesday was a very busy day for breakdowns with our patrols finishing the day 20% busier than normal for late June and Wednesday is looking even more challenging as more cars are succumbing to the extreme heat. We strongly urge people to avoid driving unless it's essential, as breaking down in these conditions is potentially life threatening if they aren't properly prepared. Being stuck at the side of a hot road without enough water and some form of shade is very serious. For this reason our patrols are also carrying extra bottles of water to give to broken-down members.
